Let the Fete Help with your Fall Cleaning!

Planning on doing some fall cleaning? We can help! Get rid of your unwanted items and help raise funds for our great school by donating the following to this year’s Fall Fete.

We are looking for USED TOYS!

Small used toys for the Fish Pond. Donation bins are located outside the office.

We are looking for NEW ITEMS:

This popular raffle can’t happen without contributions from our families!  Donations of new items are collected, sorted and assembled into beautiful, themed baskets and raffled off at the Fall Fete.

Please send new items with your child – baskets are outside the office. Need some ideas?  Themes from past years have included – arts & crafts, toys, games, books, sports related items, things for the BBQ, gourmet food & kitchen items, health & exercise, home office, home spa and beauty items, items for a movie night or a rainy day, items related to gardening, chocolates, candy, coffees, teas and other gourmet/luxury items. Please think of what you would like to win when making your donations!

Donate a bottle, then try your luck at winning a case!

Back by popular demand is the parents’ favorite Fall Fete event: the Wine Raffle!  Pressed for time? This is a great way to make a Fall Fete contribution. Simply drop off a bottle of wine at the school office (please respect office quiet times). Pick a personal favorite, or something that you’d like to share (or win!).  Bottle donations will be accepted from now until Friday October 12.  All donations will be assembled into cases to be raffled off at the Fete.  Last year ten lucky winners each went home with a case of assorted wines. Cheers!

If you are interested in knowing more, or want to get involved, you can email the Fall Fete Co-Chairs at fallfetehoward@gmail.com

See you at the Fete on October 13th.

Fall Fete – Saturday October 13th

Hello Howard Community,

Mark your calendars…Fall Fete is coming October 13th 10am-2pm.   Join us for a fun-filled day of bouncy castles, haunted house, cake walk, wine raffle and loads of great food.  Rumour has it…Fry Daddies will even be back this year!

Planning is well underway, and we need a few key volunteer positions filled to round out our team.  Many of our coordinators have been in these roles for years and they are looking to pass the torch to the next generation of parents. This is a great year to take a support role and learn the ropes so that that we continue to run this important school fundraiser for years to come.

Chez Howard Lunch Table
This is a crucial part of the Fall Fete.  The FOOD!  We have had an amazing duo organizing all of the generous donations from our Roncy restaurant partners for the past 8 years but they are looking for some eager foodie parents to partner with them and learn the ropes.   If you love food this role is for you.

Trade Up Table
A kid favorite at the Fete.  The Trade Up Table keeps them participating so they can come back for more! We have another long-time duo looking to pass the torch to another parent or two.  Shadow our experts this year and then take the reigns next year.  It’s a well-sugared machine ready to be taken over.

Have you ever been told your voice should be on the radio?  If so, you’re the person we’re looking for.   We need an outgoing individual to act as our MC on the day of the Fete.  The MC communicates timing for key events, announces raffle winners and generally rallies the crowds to excitement.

Please consider getting involved, volunteering for Fall Fete is a great opportunity to engage with the community. If you are interested, please email the Fall Fete Co-Chairs:  Olivia Burgess & Nancy Collett, at fallfetehoward@gmail.com

Fall Fete is our biggest fundraiser ($25,000+), and without your help, it won’t be as fun or successful.  If you aren’t able to take on a bigger role this year, don’t worry, you can still contribute!  There will be a volunteer website set up in the coming days where you can volunteer for a 2 hour shift.  For those that sign up early, there will be an early bird draw of THREE 1 hour Registered Massage Therapy massages from Evolve Chiropractic.

There will also be a call for donations for: the basket raffle, wine raffle, etc.  Stay tuned!

Thank you!

Olivia & Nancy

Howard Fall Fundraising Drive!!

Every year the Howard Home & School Council thinks about how we, as parents, can enrich our kids’ learning experiences. Through fantastic events like the Fall Fete, the Home & School Council community builds, raises money, and funds a diversity of programming and equipment:

  • sports equipment
  • new computers
  • theatre, dance and music experiences
  • mental health supports
  • visiting artists
  • new playground equipment
  • STEM initiatives and more!

The QSP Magazine Drive has been a major fundraiser for Howard Home & School annually. For every dollar spent on QSP purchases, Howard receives about $0.32. We want to do better!

Enter: Our new Direct Donation Fundraising Initiative.

With a direct donation, every dollar goes to Howard. This is a chance to phase out QSP — and, in the spirit of being a certified EcoSchool, end the related trinkets and environmental waste! All while raising as much or more money for our students.

Our goal this year is to raise $15,000 through direct donations.

This is an optional and private donation. The suggested donation amount is $50 per student. If you can donate more than that, please do. Not only to support our programming but also to help cover the donation for a family who is not in a position to donate.

All donations, small or large, are appreciated. Donations of over $20 receive a tax receipt.

The method of payment is via schoolcashonline.com. Click on “Items” and then “Make a Donation”.

Thank you for your support!!

Four Seasons Centre –145 Queen Street West

Dear Parents,

Introduce your student to the world of OPERA! Howard’s Music Department is offering tickets to dress rehearsals at the Canadian Opera Company. Tickets are $20 each with $5 per ticket going to the Howard Home and School Association to support music activities. Tickets may be purchased on a ratio of 1 adult to 3 children.  This is so more students see the performance than adults.   These dress rehearsals are fully staged productions performed a few days prior to opening night. We have three performances this year. Come to one or come to all three!

  • Eugene Onegin (Tchaikovsky) – Thursday September 27, 2018  7:30pm

  • Così fan Tutte (Mozart) – Saturday February 2, 2019, 7:30pm
  • La Bohème  – Monday April 15, 2019, 7:30 pm

When ordering your tickets, please provide the names of the students who will be attending. The students can be siblings, peers or cousins. They do not have to be Howard students. Tickets will not be ordered unless three students are listed on the order form.

Please send cash or a cheque payable to the “Howard Home & School Association” with your order. Tickets will not be ordered without payment. A confirmation email will be sent out. Because tickets have to be prepaid, no refunds can be given. If you cannot attend a performance you are free to give or sell your tickets to another interested student.

If you would like tickets please fill in the order form linked below and have it returned to the music room by Friday September 21, 2018 no later than 3:30 pm. Tickets will be allotted on a first-come, first-served basis. If you have any questions please email Carla at  howardgoestotheopera@gmail.com. Thank you and we look forward to seeing you at the Opera!
