HOWARD MUSIC DEPARTMENT
IS GOING TO THE OPERA
‘LOUIS RIEL’ Tickets on Sale Now
Four Seasons Centre –145 Queen Street West

Hello Parents and Howard Students,

It’s Opera time again.   We’re offering dress rehearsal tickets for performances at the Canadian Opera Company.  Howard’s music department gets to purchase tickets for dress rehearsals on the condition that the tickets are allotted on a ratio of 1 adult to 3 children. This is so more kids get to see the performance than adults.  Tickets are $20 each with $5 per ticket going to the Howard music department.

   ·         LOUIS RIEL  –  Monday, APRIL 17,  2017   7:30pm

Please provide the names of the students who will be attending.  The students can be siblings, peers or cousins.  They don’t have to be Howard students.

Please send cash or a cheque payable to the Howard Home & School Association” with your order.  Tickets will not be ordered without payment.   Because tickets have to be prepaid, no refunds can be given. If you cannot attend a performance you are free to give or sell your tickets to another student.

If you would like tickets please fill in the order form below and have it returned to the music room by Thursday, March 23rd, no later than 3:30 pm. Tickets will be allotted on a first-come, first-served basis. If you have any questions please email Ines at icolabrese@hotmail.com     Thank you!

Dance-A-Thon – Friday, February 10th – Volunteers Needed

Hello Howard Families,
The Dance-A-Thon is this Friday, February 10th!

We just have a few more days to raise funds for Dance-a-Thon.

The students can request their favourite songs online by filling out the music request form on at http://www.musicrequest.ca. Requests can be made individually or as a class up to 2 days before the event. The DJ will play from the most requested list on dance day.

If you like to dance, or just want to embarrass your child, please use the contact form on the Get Involved page on the Howard blog, or email me at mahshad7(at)yahoo.com, to volunteer on dance day. Ideally, I would need one parent per slot to help with glow bracelets and keep an eye on the room.

The dance day schedule is below so that you can see when your child’s class is at the gym.

Happy fundraising!

Winter Walk to School Day kicks off Walking Wednesday!

Winter Walk Day

Keep active this winter! We are celebrating Winter Walk Day on Wednesday February 1st, 2017. Grab your mittens, hats and boots and be a part of this fun winter event!

We are excited to announce that Howard will be taking part in Winter Walk Day next Wednesday February 1!

Walking to school in winter has many potential benefits, including benefits for your child’s health and well-being (like opportunities to learn and socialize on the way to school, and arriving to school alert and ready to learn), our community (reduced traffic congestion around the school) and the environment, too.

There will be music playing so arrive a few minutes early. All students who arrive before the bell will get a sticker of pride. We’ll tally class participation and the winning primary and winning junior class will get a prize. If your child takes the bus they can: walk to the bus stop and/or do a few laps upon arriving. Daycare kids will get their stickers when they come outside.

Walk with your child to school next Wednesday to join in the celebration! If you’re on your way somewhere else and plan on driving to your next destination, consider walking and taking transit (see Google maps for available transit routes to/from your destination: https://www.google.ca/maps), or park/drop your child off a block or two away from the school to walk the rest of the way in. If you’re not able to join, encourage your child to walk with a friend.

Check out some  Winter Walking Tips:

  • Keep hands and head covered to prevent heat loss
  • On really cold days wear a scarf over your face and mouth
  • Wear warm, waterproof boots
  • Wear a warm coat that deflects the wind
  • Woolen clothing helps to retain the heat
  • Wear clothing or carry knapsacks with reflective material – it’s important to be seen
  • If possible, change wet clothes at school – tuck an extra pair of socks and mitts into knapsacks
