Howard was awarded Platinum Eco-school status this year. Thank you for all your support!!

However our wonderful learning garden needs your help over the holidays! We need families to water the plants in our learning garden in the yard on Marmaduke, and the butterfly garden in the planters outside the main doors.

Please help us! If you can sign up for a one week stint then please email me: lesleysmeaton@hotmail.co.uk

Many thanks,

EARTH DAY @ Howard – this Friday April 21st!

EARTH DAY at Howard is April 21st!

This Friday, we will be celebrating Earth Day at Howard in the following ways:

1:00 – Our Earth Day Parade – students are encouraged to dress in an Earth Day costume (e.g. an animal they want to protect, flowers, trees, a recycling bin), our parade will follow our Halloween parade route and we will be joined by our Eco Mascots: Eco the Earth, Doctor Crunch, Agent Bright and Professor RRR. Parents are welcome to join us on the playground to take pictures!

1:30 – School Yard Clean Up – this year we are competing against other schools in the TDSB. Schools who Tweet pictures of all the trash they collect get entered into a draw to win a Water Bottle Fill Station. All classes will be cleaning the yard and our school neighbourhood. Check out our Tweets at @TDSB_HowardPS

Earth Day Resolutions: Students received a copy of this Earth Day Resolution page to complete at home. Please see the linked pdf if your child does not bring one home. We are asking each child to record a way that they will help the earth this coming year. These resolutions can be brought to school on Friday and can be carried during the parade. We will then post them on our Earth Buddies board in the school.

Monday, April 24th – Seed Planting: some classes will be planting the seeds that they will care for inside the school until late in May, when the seedlings are planted in our Learning Garden.

We look forward to celebrating Earth Day with everyone!

Earth Day Celebration – April 22nd

This year we are celebrating Earth Day on Friday April 22nd. Here is the plan:

Costumes
:
Students  can dress up in green or blue colours or in any sort of environmental theme (e.g. animals, plants) on Earth Day.

School Yard Clean-up:
Classes will be encouraged to help clean up the school yard.

Mural:
During lunchtime recess we will provide chalk for students to draw an environmental related mural on the school walls outside.

Assembly/Parade, 1:00pm:
We will be presenting the Earth Buddies Eco mascots, and also short videos made by students.  After this all students will sing the Earth Day song.  We will immediately have our parade where we will head to Howard Park, then south down Roncesvalles and then back to school.
