Last year, Grade Two Howard student Ada Fuerth started a food drive in her classroom, and together they contributed over 100 items to the Daily Bread Food Bank. This year, she has decided to make it a school-wide event, inviting each classroom to fill their own bin.
As an added incentive, Mr. Ing has agreed to take a whipped cream pie in the face by a student from the classroom with the highest number of items by December 19th, the end of the drive.
Items that are most needed for the Daily Bread Food Bank include non-perishable items such as:
Baby formula & food
Canned fruits & vegetables
Cans of soup or hearty stew
Macaroni & cheese
Beans & lentils
Canned fish & meat
Dried pasta & tomato sauce
Canned, powdered or Tetra Pak cartons of milk
Please go through your pantry or add a few extra items in your next grocery trip. Another way to help is to send in a box or two for your child’s class to use for holding all those great donations! And remember, donations will be gratefully accepted at the Howard Winter Concert as well.
Events such as Ada’s Howard Helps Hunger Food Drive provide an emergency supply to help people manage on low incomes or in a time of crisis. Let’s work together to make a difference in our community!
