Let’s Go Teamwork!

Well for any of you watching the Jays last night, what a game!! They really pulled it off and it made me think that it is the perfect segue to my almost final and slightly (ok, very) desperate plea for volunteers!!

The Jays are an amazing team with great chemistry and I have no doubt that Howard parents can band together for a great cause and make this Fall Fete a success. But we NEED your help!!!!

We are in major need of volunteers to make this event run. We may not be playing for the World Series but we need to pitch in as a community to help enrich our kids classrooms!

Areas that need help are:
COOKIE and PUMPKIN decorating
And several other areas- just have a look

So pretty please, if you haven’t already, check out the sign up page from www.fallfete.ca (click the “SIGN UP!“to go to the Volunteer Roster) and sign up for a two hour shift. You will still have time to enjoy the fete with your kids and your kids will be so proud that you are contributing!  Your Grade 5/6 Howard Students and Jr. High/High School Students are encouraged to pitch in too.  High School Students will be credited for their volunteer hours.

Thanks so much and let’s go Blue Jays!

See you at the Fete!

Fall Fete Variety Show – You’re in the Show!

THANK YOU and CONGRATULATIONS to everyone who came out to audition for the Fall Fete variety show!

We are so pleased that we have room for everyone who auditioned to perform on stage on the day of the Fete.

The variety show will be held outside (weather permitting) or in the school library and will have a running time of one hour, from 11:00 – 12:00.

We are working on the program order as we speak and will post it here on the blog and outside the music room as well. Each performer will be given a 15-minute time window so please be in the vicinity of the stage during your call time!

The variety show is sponsored by the Michael Johnston Music Studio and we will look after all musical accompaniment and sound requirements.

We are so excited to share the talents of some of our Howard students and we can’t wait to see you there!

Please contact us if you have any questions:

Thank you!

Have your kids been talking non-stop about the Fete that is happening THIS Saturday, October 17th from 10am to 2pm?? We hope you’re as excited as they are! Rain or shine, the Fete is always great fun!

There are a few last things we need to ensure that the Fete is as successful as it always is…

Please drop off your crazy, scary nut-free cakes to the tables in the hall outside the office by lunch on Friday! Cakes will be judged and prizes awarded! Then try your luck at winning one of them in our popular Cake Walk at the Fete.

Bring your nut-free goodies to be sold at the bake table: squares, cookies, cupcakes and other delectable treats. Drop them off in the “storage room” across the hall from the music room on Friday night or Saturday morning by 9am.

The easiest way to contribute to the Fall Fete. Drop off a bottle of wine (suggested minimum of $15) to the office by Friday to be assembled into cases to be won. Please respect office quiet times.

Have a pile of clean plastic shopping bags or cloth reusable bags at home? Drop them off on Friday or Saturday morning so people can carry home their treasures from the used book sale.

We still need many volunteers to make sure the Fete is a success. If you haven’t already, please sign up for a shift at www.fallfete.ca  Many hands make light work!

See you at the Fall Fete!!

While you are celebrating and giving thanks this weekend, please think about what you might donate to the Fall Fete which is in only one week on Saturday, October 17th, 2015 (10am-2pm).

Silent Auction

One of the key fundraising events at the Fete, the Silent Auction gives parents and kids the opportunity to bid on some fantastic experiences and articles. We are looking for hot items, including tickets (sports, music, theatre) and getaways at a cottage, hotel or resort. Any exciting connections you have can help make the auction even better.

Please contact amystrauch@hotmail.com if you have something to donate.

Basket Raffle

One of the highlights of the Fall Fete is our Basket Raffle. It takes a lot of time to organize and assemble the baskets and we need donations as soon as possible to make interesting baskets to raffle off.

Please, if you are out shopping this weekend, think about picking up a few new items for the baskets. We really need items related to: men’s items, women’s items, gourmet food & kitchen items, health & exercise, home spa and beauty items, gardening, and items for a movie night or a rainy day.

You can drop these items off in the baskets outside the office (the sooner, the better).

Fish Pond

Make a reel difference! Tackle your annoying toy clutter!

Cast out your small unbroken items for the Fall Fete Fish Pond. Think about items no larger than a deck of cards, things that aren’t broken and please no plush toys.

Just one week left to help bait our Fish Pond hooks! We need TONS more lures. Please send with your child to tackle box just outside of the school office.

One of the easiest ways to get involved with the Fete is to BAKE FOR THE BAKE TABLE and/or CAKE WALK!

One week until our Fabulous Fall Fete!
While you’re in the kitchen this weekend preparing terrific turkey feasts, please think about what you might whip up to donate this year to our bake table and cake walk.

Everything must be nut free please! Big sellers are cupcakes, cookies, brownies and rice crispy squares.  The more they are decorated with candy and sprinkles the better they sell! Gluten free baked goods are always in demand.  Please include a list of ingredients if possible.

Please drop baked goods off on a designated bake table by the office at 3:30pm on Friday, October 16th.

Our oh-so-popular cake walk needs your nut-free cakes! Drop them off outside the office by lunch time on Friday, October 16th. We’re looking for the most creative cakes ever! Go scary, go beautiful, go wild! Cakes will be judged by our principal, vice-principal, cake walk coordinator and a special judge from Mabel’s Bakery and some fantastic prizes will be awarded.

At the Fete, use your tickets for a chance to spin and win one of these incredible creations! Share with your friends or keep it to yourself! We’ll leave that part up to you.

Heading to the LCBO for weekend provisions?  Plan to pick up an extra bottle of wine for the Fall Fête Wine Raffle. Last year’s wine raffle raised over $2,000 for our kids!

Drop off wine donations in the school office any time from now until Friday October 16th.  (Please respect office quiet times first thing in the morning while staff is doing attendance).

Fall Fete – Calling all Lemonade Lovers!

For the last three years, during the Fall Fête, there has been a student-run lemonade stand in the gym. This is a hugely popular and profitable venture for the school…and the beauty is that it’s run by the students, and they are engaged in the process of raising money for their school, BY THEMSELVES!

Teaching the older children that they need to play a role in this event is a great way to help them understand all the work that we parents do for them (every day!)While the students can run this event during the day, they need assistance to help get it organized, make the lemonade and then make sure the day functions well.

We are looking for a parent-student team to TAKE THIS ON and help make the lemonade stand happen again this year. Samantha is happy to get you started and help to give you knowledge from previous years.

This is a contained way that you can really bring value to the Fall Fete, and raise lots of money along the way.
