Fall Fete Need YOU…and YOU…and YOU!

Fall Fete is Saturday, October 14th, 2017 (10:00am – 2:00pm)…less than 1 week away!

We still need 150+ volunteers to have all areas of this HUGE FUNDRAISER running in full force!  We need kitchen staff and BBQ staff to ensure that we can feed the masses! We need ticket sellers for all the amazing raffles, games and crafts!  We need people to run all the games so you can walk-away with prizes.

The success of the Fete depends on our volunteers.  There are shifts for Adults,  High School Students, Jr. High Students and Grade 5/6 Howard students.  Please sign up for a 2 hour shift (or two) by clicking the link below.  The Fete is only as good as the Howard community makes it…together we can make it the best yet!

Variety Show Auditions – tomorrow!

Auditions for the show will be held tomorrow and Wednesday at lunch time in the Music Room.

Students from all grades are welcome to audition. We will consider a live solo or group performance of any kind (musical, comedy, dance, magic, etc.) and there will musicians on hand to accompany you during the show.

The show will run for two 30-minute sets, for an hour in total. That means we have room for a total of about 20 performances (either group or solo), and we are hoping to include at least two from each grade.

Start polishing your act and we will see you at the auditions!

The Michael Johnston Music Studio www.michaeljohnstonmusicstudio.com is proud to sponsor the Variety Show once again at this year’s Fall Fete on October 14th.

Let the Fall Fete Help with your Fall Cleaning!

Planning on doing some fall cleaning? We can help! Get rid of your unwanted items and help raise funds for our great school by donating the following to this year’s Fall Fete.

We are looking for USED ITEMS:  (Donation boxes can be found outside the school office)

TOYS!

Small used toys for the Fish Pond

We are looking for NEW ITEMS:

BASKET RAFFLE!
This popular raffle can’t happen without contributions from our families!  Donations of new items are collected, sorted and assembled into beautiful, themed baskets and raffled off at the Fall Fete.

Please send new items with your child – baskets are outside the office. Need some ideas?  Themes from past years have included – arts & crafts, toys, games, books, sports related items, things for the BBQ, gourmet food & kitchen items, health & exercise, home office, home spa and beauty items, items for a movie night or a rainy day, items related to gardening, chocolates, candy, coffees, teas and other gourmet/luxury items. Please think of what you would like to win when making your donations!

WINE RAFFLE!
Donate a bottle, then try your luck at winning a case!

Back by popular demand is the parents’ favorite Fall Fete event: the Wine Raffle!  Pressed for time? This is a great way to make a Fall Fete contribution. Simply drop off a bottle of wine at the school office (please respect office quiet times). Pick a personal favorite, or something that you’d like to share (or win!).  Bottle donations will be accepted from now until Friday October 13.  All donations will be assembled into cases to be raffled off at the Fête.  Last year ten lucky winners each went home with a case of assorted wines. Cheers!

If you are interested in knowing more, or want to get involved, you can email the Fall Fete Co-Chairs at fallfetehoward@gmail.com.

See you at the Fete on October 14!

Fall Fete – Sat Oct 14th

Hello Howard Community,

Don’t forget to save the date: Saturday, October 14th, 10am-2pm

This year’s Fall Fete is coming together but we still need to fill some key positions!
GAMES COORDINATOR

Are you handy? Like using tools and putting stuff together??  This is a great job for someone who can’t commit a bunch of time beforehand but can take the lead setting up the beloved Mini-putt and the ever popular TOILET TOSS!  The games coordinator comes in on the Friday before the Fete at 3:30, and helps to set up the games and makes sure that we have volunteers for the games during the Fete.  There are lots of veterans who know the drill and are happy to help out but we need someone to step up and take the lead!  We think this would be the perfect role for a couple Howard Dads!
Chez Howard Lunch Table

This is a crucial part of the Fall Fete.  The FOOD!  We have had an amazing duo organizing all of the generous donations of food from our Roncy restaurant partners for FIVE years and they are looking for some eager foodie parents to partner with them and learn the ropes.  Many of our coordinators have been in these roles for years and they are looking to pass the torch to the next generation of parents.
Bouncy Castle Coordinator:  The Bouncy Castles have already been booked but we need someone to meet the company when they are dropped off the morning of the Fete and then ensure we have enough volunteers. Again, not a huge job, but an important one, because it’s possible the kids would riot if there were no bouncy castles.
Haunted House Coodinator:  Do you love Halloween and scary movies?   Then step up for the super fun role of haunted house coordinator.  We are looking for someone to take the lead on design and setup this year.  We have lots of props from last year but we are hoping a new lead will bring some unique haunts of their own!
Cake Walk Coordinator:  Do you love cake? Then this one is for you.  This is the final year for our current Cake Walk Coordinator.  We are looking for someone to shadow this year and learn the ropes so they can take the lead next year.  Line ups stretch past the office for this event! This is the perfect volunteer spot for one of our newer JK/SK parents looking to get involved.

Fortune Teller:  Do you have a flare for the dramatic,  do you like to tell stories?  Then you would be a great fit for this volunteer position.  We are in need of a new fortune teller this year.  We are looking for one (or two people to share) this creative role and have a bit of fun with the kids!
If you would like to take on one of these roles, please email the Fall Fete Co-Chairs:  Erin McCanaugh, Nancy Colette, Olivia Burgess and Beth Macintosh at fallfetehoward@gmail.com

Fall Fete is our biggest fundraiser ($25,000+), and without all of your help, it just won’t be as fun or as successful.  If you aren’t able to take on a bigger role this year, don’t worry, you can still contribute!  There will be a volunteer website set up in the coming days where you can volunteer for a 2 hour shift.  For those that sign up early, there will be an early bird draw of THREE 1 hour Registered Massage Therapy massages from Evolve Chiropractic.

There will also be a call for donations for the: the basket raffle, wine raffle, etc.  Stay tuned!

Thank you!

Volunteers needed – Fall Fete

We are still looking for that special someone or even better, a team of special someone’s to take on and organize next year’s Fall Fete!

The Fete has come to be our biggest fundraiser. Without it, our kids experience at Howard will be much different. The funds raised help us to enrich the curriculum with field trips, clubs, art and technology. But the Fete is not just about fundraising, it is about all of us pitching in for one day, having fun and building community. It would be so sad to see this tradition disappear.

Chairing the Fall Fete may seem like a daunting job but it really is manageable, especially if two or three people take it on. You get all your volunteering done in the first six weeks of school and then you are off the hook! We are even thinking about making a special edition orange “FALL FETE BOSS” t-shirt. Who doesn’t want that??!!

If you are interested, or have any questions, please feel free to email erin.mccaughan@gmail.com and once again Erin is happy to help through the whole process.

Thank you!!
