Earth Buddies, Stone Soup & Garden @ Howard

I am very sad to say that I cannot lead these activities this year and going forward.
I have had such fun working with Howard students on the multitude of events these past few years. I will miss it.
I am free to meet and hand over the torch this Saturday, September 17, 11:30-1.
Please contact me:
Stone Soup: Every autumn, we cook soup and re-tell the stone soup tale for the school.
Earth Buddies: Meet biweekly at lunch,to plan and execute awareness campaigns for Howard students to be more eco-conscious.
Spring Planting/Garden: Gets everyone involved in growing from seed, planting in the yard, and harvesting for stone soup- we learn about the cycle of life, importance of birds and bees, conservation of water, importance of urban greenspace… etc

Learning Garden Watering Crew Volunteers Needed

We seeded. We planted. We grow.

Now we need 11 volunteers to water the garden for 1 week each this summer.

It’s easy, fun for the whole family and yields great results for our annual fall harvest and Stone Soup.

Earth Buddies – Seed To Harvest Festival

Seed to Harvest bannerOur annual Seed to Harvest Festival kicks of this Thursday and Friday with school-wide seed planting!

Volunteers still needed to help – see schedule below and contact EB parent lead if you’re interested.

Please share this beautiful short video on pollination with your child/children in advance – and feel confident knowing all our seeds are organic and will not compromise the food chain.

What is the Seed to Harvest Festival you ask?

1. In late May students sow seeds into compostable pots – and care for them in class over 2-4 weeks

2. In June they plant them out in the yard – volunteers take turns watering over the summer

3. When we return to school in the fall we harvest our garden and make a delicious stone soup – complete with stone – while Earth Buddies club members recount the classic Stone Soup tale.

These mascots were developed by the 2014-15 Earth Buddies and will become a permanent part of our school culture, celebrating and encouraging eco-friendly activities such as Fresh-Fruit-Fridays, Bike-to-School-Week, litter-less lunches, recycling etc.

First introduced at the November 2015 Character Assembly, look for these characters throughout the year around the school and at events.
