Volunteers Needed for Outdoor Learning @ Howard this Fall

Hello Howard Families!

We are hopeful that we can build on the successes of last year’s Outdoor Learning initiatives and help get classes outdoors as much as possible again this school year. With COVID numbers once again on the rise, this program is one way we can work to keep kids and teachers healthy and keep schools open.  We’ll be checking in with the school administration as soon as they return to the office next week to assess what will be possible given the ongoing schoolyard revitalization work, but we believe we have good options.

The Outdoor Learning committee is provisionally looking for new volunteers to help with occasional set-up and take-down. We are ALSO looking for one or more parents interested in transitioning into a committee co-head leadership role. This year will be smoother sailing than last year as the bulk of the materials have been secured already (crates, microphones, clipboards, etc.) and the chalk walls should be in good shape. The role would be mostly volunteer management and dialogue with the principals, but of course you’d be encouraged and welcome to work with Council and the school admin to build upon our foundation from last year. Being a committee head is a great way to connect to the Howard community and feel more connected to the work that Council does to support the school.

Please get in touch ASAP (email Kate Van de Ven at katelawrie{at}gmail.com) if you are available for a volunteer and/or committee head role on this really important initiative.

Thanks all!
