FERN AVE PUBLIC SCHOOL would like to invite HOWARD PUBLIC SCHOOL to Fern’s 3rd ANNUAL STEM NIGHT!
Tuesday, March 26th 5:30-7:30, FERN AVENUE PUBLIC SCHOOL
This is a great opportunity for Howard students who will be going to Fern next year.
March 25 and 26 every class at Fern will do a different STEM project facilitated by parent volunteers. On Tuesday evening (March 26), these projects will be on display, along with a bunch of other cool STEM related stuff.
Highlights include the Grade 6 egg splat, the Grade 5 Mechanical Hand, the Grade 4 Marble Run, the Grade 7 Spaghetti Tower weight competition, and you can watch a film of the Grade 8’s paddling cardboard boats across the pool!
The whole neighbourhood is welcome, and if you have a future Fern student in your family, this is a great chance to come check our or school community. There will be lots of familiar Fern families around, and members of School Council to answer questions about Fern.
In addition to the classroom projects, here are some of our special guests this year:
Take a Virtual Reality adventure with Google Cardboard. Experience a Google expedition where VR lets you explore the world virtually while AR brings abstract concepts to life— through collections of 360° scenes and 3D objects, with interesting sites and artifacts along the way.
Empowering the makers of tomorrow. MakerKids is a makerspace that offers educational classes in coding, robotics, Minecraft and more! Make sure to enter the raffle to win a $25 gift certificate to put towards any MakerKid program of your choice.
STEAMLabs is a community makerspace where people of all ages and abilities come together to practice digital fabrication, coding, hands-on making and electronics. STEAMLabs will be hosting a firefly making activity that uses LEDs.

You might have heard her recently on the CBC talking about her views on the state of our current Math curriculum and how to cope with Math Anxiety.
