The October Home and School meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 17th at 7 pm in the library. All welcome! This is our budget meeting so if you want a say in where the fundraising dollars are spent, this is the meeting for you. Below please find the meeting agenda, notes from September meeting, and information on the budgeting process.
At the September meeting a question was raised about whether we as a school council would be making any direct charitable donations out of council’s budget. For the October meeting, we do not feel we can appropriately address the charitable giving issue for several reasons. Charitable donations have been a divisive issue in the past and we believe we need a bigger conversation about the issue, which we will not have time for during the budget meeting. We do think this important issue needs attention, and so we will be holding a sustained conversation in November, to talk about ways we as parent council can support student and teacher led donations and how charitable donations and processes would look if there is an interest in them.
School council will continue to do ongoing charitable projects, including the annual holiday concert food drive, holiday toy drive, and support for school led Jump Rope for Heart and Terry Fox Run. We also plan to continue setting aside a portion of our budget for holiday hampers to help families in need in our school. As always, we are happy to provide volunteers and administrative support to ideas brought forward by our community so if you want to run a coat drive or something else, please do let us know how we can provide support.
We look forward to seeing you all on Weds October 17th to talk budgets and we will let you know the date for the November charitable discussion as soon as we have it.
