SHAC (Student Heath Action Committee) News – FFF and 60MKC

Hello Howard Families,

The SHAC students have been working hard to find ways to motivate our students to make healthy lifestyle choices throughout their day. This year we are focusing on the healthy behaviours and goals that are outlined in 60MKC:  Activity, Nutrition, Screen Time, Hydration and Sleep.

This week we are launching two initiatives:

1) FFF – Fresh Fruit Friday -Once a month we will be selling apples for 25 cents, and sometimes other fruit for 50 cents. The fruit in purchased from FoodShare. All proceeds are once again going towards Erica’s Wish. Last year we provided over 15 blankets, through Erica’s Wish, to boys and girls who were admitted to Sick Kids’ Hospital for cancer treatments.  Please see www.ericaswish.com for more information.

2) 60MKC -We will be launching the 60MKC on Friday. A note is going home this week (as well as attached to this email). The note explains what 60 Minute Kids Club is all about and how to register. We know students at Howard live very active lifestyles. This is a platform that allows the students to track what they do to stay healthy each day. Journalling and goal setting are healthy habits to develop These habits allow us to identify areas to improve and set goals. What a great way to develop this into our daily routine!
