It’s time again for Howard’s annual spring planting!
Thursday, May 29 – all day.
NEW this year it is a school-wide event with ALL classes participating!
The Howard Spring Planting is part of the seed-to-harvest festival. A few weeks ago students started seedlings in their classes and these will be planted next week. We let them grow until fall when we harvest them for the annual Stone Soup event, served up in our learning garden alongside a telling of the classic Stone Soup tale.
Much more than just locally grown food and a good moral tale on the benefits of pooling resources, the whole experience teaches the fundamentals of biology, Eco-systems, patience and environmental stewardship.
Celebrate these concepts with your children in their garden when you visit the school.
As in the past, half day or full day parent volunteers are welcome to facilitate the planting. We are looking for 12 or more volunteers with gardening experience not required, but helpful. And we also welcome help with watering throughout the summer break or helping harvest and cook at the Stone Soup event. Please contact the Earth Buddies parent coordinator if you can help.
